Some time back I had the pleasure of working with HireUAVPro, a professional drone entertainment company. This company travels the world putting on drone light shows, and while they were in the San Francisco Bay Area I joined their team. We did 3 shows together, one in Dublin, CA, one in Pleasanton, CA, and one in San Francisco. All three locations had their own challenges, but the show in San Francisco was by far the best and most challenging.
The hardest thing about working a drone show is the constant bending over and standing up. When you have a 250-drone show, you literally have to place each one and then connect the power modules on each drone for a systems check. Then you must unplug the power modules until just before the show starts and plug them in again. There's only about 12 minutes power in a module, and a typical show is 10 minutes in length, so it's critical to minimize usage before the show starts. The occasion for the drone shows in San Francisco was the public introduction of the cruise ship Scenic Eclipse, a polar cruise ship.
All in all, it's a great experience, although I am getting too old to do this in the future-too much getting up and down!
Here's a video that shows the whole process from start to finish:
